SKC dogs do it all. In addition to conformation, some of them are hardworking dogs, participating in sports such as herding, agility, tracking and obedience. Agility is a competitive timed sport that tests a person's skills training and handling dogs through an obstacle course. The handle guides the dog through the course, which includes jumping hurdles, crossing ramps, hustling through tunnels, negotiating teeter-totters and weaving through a pole line, all under the pressure of timed performance. It's a fast sport exciting not only for the handler and dog, but also for spectators! Conformation is the dog sporting event most people associate with kennel clubs. But it's more than a canine beauty pageant. In conformation, purebred dogs are judged by how each individual dog compares to its breed standard. They are the ultimate working partner, a handler and his herding dog. Herding takes a highly energetic dog partnered with a handler to move cattle and sheep. In competition, the handler and dog seem to be one, working together to accomplish a goal, whether it is to cut a specific lamb from the flock or drive a herd in a straight line from one side of a field to another. Coming soon! Rally Coming soon! Tracking Tracking is a sport testing a dog's natural ability to follow a scent. In competition, the dog and handler follow a blind track (neither the dog nor handler have seen where the track is lain) with the ultimate goal of finding an article (such as glove). Tracks can be from 440 yards up to 1,000 yards long with multiple directional changes and aged from 30 minutes up to five hours, all depending on the tracking competition level. Three titles can be earn: TD, TDX and VST. After earning all three titles, the dog earns the highest title of Champion Tracker. Any breed may compete. More coming soon!
